In his interview on BUILDING DIGITAL BRIGDES WITH ICT SOLUTIONS, Prof. Manny Continues ... "AfriHUB is all about Capacity Building.
Our main focus is to bring about change in Nigeria… bring about digital access starting from the tertiary institutions; our universities all over the country, whereby our major concern is that university students are undergoing education without adequate infrastructure, without all the prepared equipment that their peers around the globe already have access to for over 25 years. So AfriHUB was started to address those issues and allow our students and university community to have access to digital resources around the globe through the internet and then, on a higher level eventually, they will be able to do everything that they should do within the confines of the environment”.
Where and when was this idea of AfriHUB born?
2002! When I went to a Conference and delivered a paper in South Africa,
and the paper that I did was on Building Capacity for Local Communities and many questions were asked by the friends/participants in that conference in South Africa. From the questions that were asked i began to see that there is a need for that community to be university community and for that capacity building to be ICT capacity building. Then we began to ask questions, myself and my colleagues within Nigeria. It became very obvious that no one else can do it for us but us. That was how we began.
